Rehabilitation
We are proud to offer rehabilitation services through Dr. Stephanie Badge Kindred, veterinarian and certified canine rehabilitation therapist.
Rehabilitation in veterinary medicine is equivalent to physical therapy in human medicine. It is a quickly emerging field that is advancing constantly and soon rehabilitation services will become standard of care for our pets just as it is for people. The more we are realizing what we can do with rehab in animals the more conditions we are finding we can help.
Rehabilitation begins with an initial evaluation of your pet from head to toe. This appointment aims not only to find the primary problem but also to detect the very important secondary and compensatory issues that are affecting your pet. From there a treatment plan is developed that typically includes in-clinic visits as well as a home exercise program. Orthopedic, neurologic, and soft tissue ailments will be treated with a combination of cold laser therapy, electrical stimulation, massage, range of motion stretching, and therapeutic exercises with equipment such as cavelletti poles, balance balls, and rocker boards. These treatments allow us to improve function in pets suffering from arthritis, recovering from surgery, or battling obesity. It also helps prevent injury for certain breeds or lifestyles that carry a higher risk. Rehabilitation is a particularly gentle and effective option for managing chronic pain in our geriatric and hospice patients as well.
